So, MUSIC MAN opened last Thursday. The first set of shows went reasonably well. There were definite speed bumps and the Sunday house wasn't as big as I wish I could have been. Still, we're finding it - at least those of us who are looking for it are.
Yesterday we took a trip to the Sedgwick County Zoo and got up close and personal with more really playful lions, gorillas, and bears than I've ever seen at any other zoo. It was amazing.
Saturday we went to the Kansas State Fair, along with my best and oldest friend in the world (the advantage of having a gig so close to home!) and I discovered that some things from your youth should just stay in your memory. We would spend WEEKENDS at the fair as a kid - we'd take the camper on Friday, taking the day off of school, and have three days to take in the magic.
We arrived at the fair at around 10:30 on Saturday, and by 1pm had taken in everything any of us were remotely interested in actually seeing or doing. It was a nice nostalgia trip but that's pretty much all that was nice about it.

Currently eating my days: Amazing free gym, FABLE for Xbox, and Star Wars on DVD today.

Is This Everyone?
...that could well be the theme for this rehearsal process so far. The show involves a lot of children and their schedules and the ability to coordinate them is not really in the hands of any one person. Some of the adults have priorities here before the show, as well, and thus many rehearsals have been exercises in futility because so many people are missing.
Still, it's coming together and I've been able to get a handle on it much more easily than I'd expected. It's such a GREAT role. I didn't have a lot of fun in BYE BYE BIRDIE this summer, it just never clicked entirely for me. This, however, is really an amazing ride.
Tech starts tomorrow - so I may not post again until after we open (Thursday, if you're sending gifts...)
