A serious aside

Reading the news of late, I feel I'm in some terrible, frightening movie...

Things were bad enough, then to put it over the top yesterday Chancellor Palpa...er, President Bush commuted the sentence of his good buddy Scooter Libby.

And his official statement, which you can read at whitehouse.gov, amounts to "I have the power to do this so I am."

The he found the sentence "excessive" so he took care of it. If you've ever known anyone who has ever had a friend or family member convicted of something, I'm sure they found those sentences "excessive" as well, but damn it all, they were stuck having to ABIDE BY THE DECISIONS OF THE AMERICAN LEGAL SYSTEM.

ahem.

Anyway, Clinton was brought up for impeachment over tabloidish meandering while Bush and Cheney are genuinely, sincerely abusing their power and increasing it through backdoor legislation while we sit back and think it will all be okay because we live in America, and they are our elected officials.

I am not a Bush basher, I have been brought around to this opinion. I am genuinely frightened of what our nation is becoming. Please read the following article, which I found this morning:

Holocaust Survivor Leaving U.S.
